Chifley Conversations: The Politics of Europe After COVID & Ukraine

As the election campaign in Australia kicks into gear, what can we learn from other democracies emerging from the pandemic and confronting the war in Ukraine? We’ll be discussing a major new survey that has found that COVID-19 has left European societies feeling more exhausted, divided and distrustful, yet looking for governments to take more action on the cost of living and on climate change.

The study was conducted by More in Common, an organisation that works on democracy and social cohesion. It takes a snapshot of the health of democracy and societies in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain. In this conversation, we heard from Tim Dixon, co-founder of More in Common and former senior adviser to Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd and Kim Beazley, and from Laura Krause, More in Common’s country director in Germany.
