Working-class women are often missing from workplace conversations. Join Dr Emma Dawson, Chifley Institute, and Professor Nareen Young, UTS Centre for Indigenous People and Work to hear about a new national survey exploring the challenges and barriers working class women face at work and finding secure, fair jobs and careers.
This survey is the first research project to come out of a newly established group of prominent working class and working-class background women and gender diverse people in Australia, who have come together to lead the conversation on working class status, class and class background, equity, and inclusion in Australian workplaces. The group is convened by Sonja Terpstra MP, MP for the North Eastern Metropolitan Region in the Victorian Parliament with the UTS Centre for Indigenous People and Work’s Professor Nareen Young and Chifley Research Centre’s CEO and UTS Adjunct Professor Emma Dawson. Together, the women will:
- Champion self‑representation for working class women in the employment diversity conversation
- Examine labour market. policy and workplace barriers
- Shape employer and government reforms
- Advance intersectional, evidence‑based solutions
