The Wave Hill Walk-off was one of the monumental drivers for land rights and change for First Nations Australians. In 1966, Vincent Lingiari led over 200 Gurindji workers off Wave Hill in a strike that lasted almost 10 years and changed the nation.
Unions and the Labor Party have worked hand in hand with Indigenous Australians to advance our rights and outcomes for decades. From the early strikes and associations that started the battle for equality, the 1967 referendum, the Wave Hill Walk-off, to the Racial Discrimination Act, the labour movement has become the natural place for Indigenous activists and activism.
