Labor has won government twice. The challenge now is to build a stronger grassroots movement that recruits new members, develops new leaders and remains deeply connected to the communities we represent.
Join incoming Australian Labor Party National President Kate Ellis, alongside first-term MPs Claire Clutterham and Matt Smith, for a special live edition of The Program from the 50th ALP National Conference.
Kate brings the perspective of a generation that helped rebuild Labor and return it to government. Drawing on her experience entering Parliament in 2004 and serving as a minister in the Rudd and Gillard governments, she will reflect on leadership, political power, the changing role of women in the Party and what member-based organisations must do to thrive.
Claire and Matt represent the next generation of Labor leadership. They will share what they have learned during their first year in Parliament, how they are building enduring relationships in their electorates and how organising beyond election campaigns can strengthen Labor and the communities it represents.
Together, the panel will explore how Labor can combine experience, new ideas and greater participation to build a movement capable of governing for the long term.
The discussion will be followed by questions from the audience.
