Millions of Australians feel the economic system of the past 50 years is broken and the status quo no longer works for them, driving a surge in the populist vote. How can Labor harness the mood for change in a way that holds true to our union values and our legacy as a party of practical progressive government? Join Unionists for a Job Guarantee (UfJG) to discuss how a Job Guarantee can combat the far right while boosting wages and union bargaining power.
This event will also serve as the launch of UfJG’s flagship Working for Australia policy, a concrete plan to ensure everyone who wants a job can get a job, presented by the John Curtin Research Centre’s Deputy Director and Chief Economist Lachlan Kerwood-McCall (former Senior Economist at the ACTU). We will outline our major campaign for National Conference and beyond: the introduction of a Full Employment Target of 2% to 3% unemployment rates.
Unionists for a Job Guarantee is a grassroots group campaigning for secure jobs for all, made up of over 100 members from across the union movement.
