The Albanese Government has made investment in early childhood education and care (ECEC) a priority of its first two terms in office, and the Prime Minister has expressed his desire to make universal ECEC a legacy of his administration.
Research from the Centre for Policy Development has shown that 62% of children in Australia have an adverse childhood experience, and that preventing such experiences can reduce lifetime harm and disadvantage.
Support for children and investment in the prevention of childhood harm must not end when they reach school age. We know that it takes a village to provide the kind of family and community care that will ensure young people can thrive and achieve their full potential.
This panel brings together leading Australian experts, alongside the UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Children and Families, to explore what it will take to ensure that the science of childhood development is embedded in government policy to deliver better outcomes for children, and to support families to thrive in their communities and across the country.
