At a time when multicultural communities are under attack, a key policy issue people seeking asylum have asked us to advocate alongside them is the right to work and study.
Everyone deserves a fair chance to rebuild their life. But right now, over 10,000 people seeking asylum are denied the right to work and study while they wait years for protection decisions, leaving them unable to support themselves and contribute their skills.
Most people accessing the ASRC Foodbanks have no income at all, leaving people without the right to work forces them into poverty and destitution. With the stroke of a pen, this fundamental right can be restored, enabling people to participate, contribute, and strengthen our communities.
This panel brings together lived expertise, business and unions outlining the social, economic and human rights benefits of granting people seeking asylum the right to work and study.
