The biggest Fringe Program for the 2011 ALP National Conference, Progressive Australia`s Politics in the Hall brings together members of the progressive movement from Australia and around the world to discuss renewing our social democratic values and rebuilding our movement.
Come and participate and have your say over two exciting days at the historic Sydney Trades Hall and see how you can play your part in implementing progressive change in Australia.
11:00am: Launch of the Progressive Australia Fringe Program
11:30am – 12:30pm: Young People Imagining a New Democracy
Join the Whitlam Institute as they present their thought provoking report on the impact that young people have in Australian elections.
1:00pm – 2:30pm: International Perspectives in the Progressive Youth Movement: Norway, New Zealand and Australia
Join leaders from the Norwegian Labor Party and a panel of young progressive activists from around the world as they discuss building a stronger international youth movement.
3:00pm – 4:30pm: Young Progressives and the future of our movement
Join some of Australia`s up and coming political leaders as they debate and discuss the future of the progressive movement.
7:00am – 8:15am: How Progressive can beat our opponents
Join the progressive training organisation Campaign Action with a panel of some of the leading campaigners from the UK, North America and around the world to talk about the ways that progressive parties can defeat our conservative opponents.
9:30am – 11:00am: New forms of regulation in the Modern Market Economy
In the face of economic uncertainty in Europe, this panel will discuss new forms of regulatory tools that will further strengthen Australia`s economy and keep people in secure and well paid work.
1:00pm – 2:00pm: Making the case for marine sanctuaries
Australia has a chance to make history, come and join Save Our Marine Life, a coalition of environmental and conservation groups, as they make the case for the introduction of marine sanctuaries to protect our unique marine life.
2:30pm – 4:00pm: New voices for Social Democracy
This panel, hosted by Labor International, will bring together some of the leading voices for Social Democracy in our region and beyond to discuss the opportunities and challenges that are currently facing Social Democratic parties.
6:00pm – 7:00pm: Jennifer Palmieri: State of Play in the US, keynote address and drinks function
Join Jennifer Palimieri for the final special event of the Progressive Australia Fringe Program. Jennifer understands US politics like few others and has a wealth of experience in campaigning for the Democrats. She will be talking about the current state of play in the US in the lead up to the 2012 Presidential election. Jennifer is President of the Center for American Progress Action Fund and Senior Vice President for Communications for the Center for American Progress.
